Internet Fax Technology
UTBox uses a variety of hardware and software technologies to provide a reliable and advanced service. We choose these companies and their products as they are the best fit for the purpose, best of breed and consistent. We continue to carefully evaluate and select technology based on supplier reputations, reliability and commitment to the industry and their field. We own all of our hardware and invest significantly on an ongoing basis to ensure these are always up to date and secure. Here is a snapshot of the systems we employ.
Our operating system of choice: Linux
Predominantly known for its use in high end servers, Linux is supported by corporations such as Dell, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Novell, Oracle Corporation, Red Hat, and Sun Microsystems. It is used as an operating system for a wide variety of computer hardware, including desktop computers, supercomputers, video game systems, such as the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3, several arcade games, and embedded devices such as mobile phones, routers, and stage lighting systems. At UTBox we use Linux in almost all of our core systems. We believe this to be the best choice for security, reliability and integrity. We also like the community spirit, transparency and collaborative nature of its development.
Delivering a reliable connection: Eicon
UTBox make use of and maintain Eicon high technology fax boards. The company is mostly known for their range of telecommunications products in voice, speech, conferencing and fax markets. An early pioneer of ADSL and Wifi products. Eicon has been well known and respected in the information communications and technology (ICT) industry. In 2006, Eicon acquired Dialogic; the Media & Signalling Division of Intel. The merged company took on the Dialogic name. We believe this is one of the standards setting brands and their hardware has been trusted and tested.
MaxStream Rabbit: Digi
Digi is a manufacturer of the high technology fax boards used by UTBox. Owner of Rabbit Semiconductor and MaxStream brands. Digi are most known for providing the infrastructure to connect different networks in industries such as medical/health care, traffic management, retail, data centre management, industrial automation and remote management. We believe and have proven Digi offer one of the benchmark enterprise products and as a result are pleased to use their components.
High performance intelligence: Brooktrout
Brooktrout Technology is a manufacturer of the high technology fax boards used by UTBox. Known as a leader in telephony interfacing boards for various networks in the 90’s. In 2006 the company merged with Excel Switching and named Cantata Technologies. With hardware deployed in some of the most demanding environments in both enterprise and service provider networks in more than 80 countries, Cantata was acquired and incorporated into Dialogic. We use the Brooktrout brand as one of the variety of makes from the top lines of products to ensure compatibility and reliability.
Renowned reliability: Hewlett-Packard
UTBox relies on quality hardware from Hewlett Packard’s Enterprise Storage and Servers Group (ESS). These hardware and software redundant machines have been tested thoroughly and are inspected and maintained on a regular basis. We chose HP as we know the hardware in question to be of high quality, tested pedigree, reliability and scalability.
One of the world’s largest: Verizon Business
We host our equipment with Verizon Business, one of the most recognised global communications companies in the world. Providing networks to government and business customers on its state-of-the-art fiber-optic network in more than 2,700 cities and 150 countries. Operating submarine cables, satellite control stations and 200 data centres, as well as facilities for non-Verizon companies, they provide 97 percent of Fortune 500 companies connectivity. In Australia Verizon Business’s customers include UTBox, Powertel, Optus and Telstra.
A community leading the way in it’s field: Apache
Our web servers are run on the open source technology, Apache. Apache is primarily used to serve both static content and dynamic web pages on the World Wide Web. Many web applications are designed and expecting the environment and features that Apache provides. For example Google’s search engine front end is based on a modified version of Apache (named GWS), and Wikipedia are also run on Apache servers. We chose Apache as it is the most used and trusted web server to run on Linux.
Connecting with innovation: Netgear
We utilise Netgear routers and switches for our internal data network systems. Both at our offices and data centre. Netgear was originally a subsidiary of Bay Networks, having also been owned by Nortel as of 2002 it is now fully independent.
UTBox carefully evaluates and selects technology for the UTBox systems based on supplier reputations, reliability and commitment to the industry to ensure robust and reliable systems are in place. UTBox owns all it’s technology and invests significantly on an ongoing basis to ensure these are always up to date and secure.
